The Single Cask Ltd. was founded in 2010 by Ben Curtis (initially operating as Malt Vault Company).
It has offices in London and Singapore, and in addition to bottling whisky, it has a bar and a retail store. The company offers whisky exclusively in single cask versions, bottled in their natural color, at cask strength and without chill filtration. The Glen Spey presented here was distilled on March 17, 2008, finished in a quarter cask after Laphroaig (no. 801878A), and was bottled on August 18, 2021 in an edition of 120 bottles. The Glen Spey Distillery (founded in 1878) is based in Speyside. The plant is owned by Diageo, and equipped with two pairs of stills, it produces 1.5 million liters of distillate per year. Glen Spey is one of Diageo's three smallest distilleries, the two smaller being Oban and Royal Lochnagar.
Nose : slightly peaty, honeycomb, vanilla, breakfast cereals, green tea, white pepper, oaky Chardonnay, notes of camphor, pencil shavings and sea breeze.
Palate: barley malt, vanilla, toffee, green apples, lime jam, a handful of fresh herbs, salted peanuts, white pepper and a hint of smoke in the background.
Finish : medium long, with notes of barley malt, vanilla, lemon peel, pepper, oak and peat.
