Fred Laing’s Old Particular series debuted in September 2013, shortly after the division of the assets of Douglas Laing & Co. between the two Laing brothers.
It is the equivalent of the Old Malt Cask series, which is owned by the newly formed Hunter Laing & Co. and chaired by Stewart. Old Particular comprises single malt and single grain whiskies bottled in single cask. The Glengoyne 12 year old on display here was distilled in June 2008 and aged in a refill hogshead cask, DL 14574. Bottled in December 2020 at 48.4% abv and non-chill-filtered, in an edition limited to 366 bottles.
Nose: barley malt, vanilla, brown sugar, fruit candy, ginger cookies, orange peel, apples, cinnamon, notes of leather and oak.
Palate: sweet breakfast cereals, honey, vanilla, sponge cake, raisins, baked apples, orange jam, sugared nuts, notes of ginger and oak.
Finish: medium long, with notes of sweet bread, caramel, milk chocolate, walnuts, orange peel and a pinch of pepper.
