Fred Laing’s Old Particular series debuted in September 2013, shortly after the division of the assets of Douglas Laing & Co. between the two Laing brothers.
It is the equivalent of the Old Malt Cask series, which is owned by the newly formed Hunter Laing & Co and chaired by Stewart. Old Particular comprises single malt and single grain whiskies bottled in single cask. The Tomatin 12 years old presented here was distilled in December 2008 and aged in a refill hogshead cask no. DL 14981. Bottled in May 2021 at 48.4% abv and non-chill-filtered in an edition limited to 331 bottles.
Nose : fruity, ripe pears and apples, kiwi, pineapples, vanilla, milk fudge, honeyed peanuts, notes of cinnamon and toasted oak.
Palate : sweet breakfast cereals, honeycomb, brown sugar, vanilla, nougat, baked apples, strawberry-rhubarb jam, white pepper and lemongrass.
Finish : medium long, with notes of barley malt, caramel, vanilla, summer fruits and a hint of white pepper.
