Macduff Distillery is located in the Eastern Highlands town of Banff. Since 1993, it has been owned by John Dewar & Sons, a subsidiary of Bacardi Ltd., and produces around 3.3 million liters of distillate per year.
The owners promote their single malt under the Glen Deveron brand (most recently The Deveron), while independent bottlers consistently use the Macduff name. The Macduff shown here was distilled in June 2009 and spent 12 years in a refill hogshead cask, DL 15234. Bottled by Douglas Laing & Co. in their Old Particular series under the slogan ‘Cheers to Better Days’ at 48.4% abv and non-chill-filtered in September 2021 in an edition of 332 bottles.
Nose : sweet and spicy, brown sugar, vanilla, honey, buttered toast, pears, peaches, tangerines, ginger, nutmeg and oak.
Taste : vanilla pudding, caramel, milk fudge, golden syrup, apples, gooseberries, sponge cake, white pepper, nutmeg and a slight bitterness of oak.
Finish : medium long, with notes of vanilla, honey, caramel, summer fruits, ginger, white pepper and oak tannins.
