At the end of 2020, Bowmore, the oldest distillery on Islay (established in 1779), announced the release of a new, luxurious “Timeless Series”.
Consisting of specially selected whiskies matured mainly in the famous No.1 Vaults warehouse. To celebrate the event, Bowmore's directors invited French director Thomas Vanz to create a short film dedicated to the distillery. The series is heralded by the Bowmore 27 years old, a whisky aged for 15 years in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, finished for 12 years in fresh Oloroso sherry butts and bottled at cask strength (52.7% abv). The whisky rests in an elegant black box next to a small hourglass. It measures 3 minutes, during which tasters are to concentrate solely on the aromas before engaging their taste receptors. The edition consisted of 3,000 bottles.
Nose: sea breeze and peat smoke, seaweed, raisins and sultanas, mango, figs, hungarian jam, toffee, maple syrup, licorice, tobacco leaves, notes of potpourri and oak.
Palate: dark chocolate, toffee, black cherries, blackberries, plums, orange peel, raisins, walnuts, violet liqueur, tobacco, leather, oak and peat smoke in the background.
Finish : long, with notes of peat smoke, dried fruit, roasted nuts, sea salt, tobacco and oak tannins.
