Talisker is a single malt that has seen tremendous sales growth in the new century.
It increased by several hundred percent, to reach 3.3 million bottles in 2020, which places Talisker in ninth place in the single malt category sales statistics. The distillery's commercial offer is extremely diverse and lists over ten versions, from several bottled without an age statement, to extremely rich 25- and 30-year-old whiskies and crème de la crème 41 years old. Talisker 30 years old debuted in 2006 and has experienced annual limited editions since then. The 30-year-old presented here was the pride of Diageo Special Releases 2009. The whisky was aged in refill barrels (American and European oak) and bottled at 53.1% abv. 3,000 bottles went on sale.
Nose: rich, fruity, honeydew melon, pineapples, passion fruit, bananas, seaweed, green tea, honey, maple syrup, licorice, black pepper, nutmeg, wax, oak and peat smoke in the background.
Palate : peat smoke, sea breeze and seaweed, pink grapefruit, lemons, gooseberries, cinnamon, cloves, black pepper, vanilla, salted almonds, tobacco and toasted oak.
Finish: long and pleasantly smoky, with notes of sea breeze, black pepper, citrus, vanilla salt, caramel, zesty orange and oak.
