Product description
In 1877, the Sánchez Romate family began producing brandy for their own use.
The drink quickly gained an excellent reputation and went on general sale as Cardenal Mendoza brandy. Its patron, Cardinal Don Pedro Gozález de Mendoza (1423-1495) was a great personality of 15th-century Spain. As an advisor to King Ferdinand II and Queen Isabella I, he was a great advocate of Columbus' first voyage to America and played a decisive role in the unification of Spain. Cardenal Mendoza Non Plus Ultra is the pearl of the company's offer. The history of the brandy begins in 1971, when 38 barrels of distillate were filled for half a century of maturation. It celebrates the 200th anniversary of the founding of Bodegas Sánchez Romate Hermanos and its contribution to the production of sherry and brandy. (Official tasting note.)
The drink has a deep mahogany color with a shade of copper.
The aromatic bouquet includes plenty of Oloroso sherry and oak soaked in it, plus subtle notes of dried fruit and nuts, orange peel and warming spices – all in perfect harmony.
On the palate, the drink is extremely expressive, although mild, dry, but revealing an infinite depth of flavors. The finish is long and warming, encouraging contemplation.
