Product description
In autumn 2021, Nikka launched its “Discovery” series with two limited editions (10,000 bottles each) – Miyagikyo Peated and Yoichi Non-Peated.
This series is a kind of prelude to the company's 90th anniversary celebrations in 2024. Generally, Miyagikyo is a malt with a delicate fruity-floral profile, while the character of Yoichi is described as rich, smoky-peaty. This time, however, the company has offered experimental whiskies with profiles that are far from stereotypes. And so, repeating after the producer, "Yoichi distilled from malted barley without peat completely contradicts the established image of a smoky-peaty single malt in favor of intense fruit notes."
Nose: fruity malt, bananas, apples, peaches, pears, honey, vanilla, toffee, butter cookies, white pepper, ginger and a fading trace of smoke.
Palate: less fruity than the nose suggested, vanilla, cappuccino, milkshake, apples, plums, lemon peel, white pepper, a touch of anise and oak.
Finish : medium long, with notes of toffee, vanilla, caramel, apples, pears, a mixture of dried herbs and oak tannins.
