Product description
In April 2018, renowned independent whisky publisher Gordon & MacPhail, which has been operating since 1895, reduced the number of its “release series” from fourteen to five.
Among the lucky five was Connoisseurs Choice, in our opinion the most recognisable Gordon & MacPhail series, introduced in the 1960s by George Urquhart. Today, we find mainly single cask editions bottled at cask strength. The Strathmill presented here was added to the series on 12 January 2021 as Batch #21/024. Distilled in 1991, the whisky spent almost three decades in a refill bourbon cask no. 100461, and bottled at cask strength (53.9% abv) and without chill filtration in an edition of just 87 bottles. (G&M tasting note.)
Nose : sweet aromas of toffee and vanilla combined with dried red apple and walnuts; behind them subtle notes of lemon and lime interwoven with toasted oak.
Palate: white pepper, sweet lychee and crystallized violets to start; followed by citrus sweetness and lemon sorbet balanced by a light bitterness of oak.
Finish: medium long, with subtle floral notes.
