Product description
The small Caribbean island of Trinidad once boasted as many as 50 rum factories.
The Caroni Distillery was founded in 1918 on the site of an old sugar mill. The distillery operated both traditional stills and column stills, and the rum produced there was heavy, just right for supplying the British Navy. In 2001, the distillery was sold to Angostura and closed for good a year later. Caroni rum was given a second life by Luca Gargano's visit to Trinidad in 2004, when he discovered a forgotten warehouse of barrel-aged rum.
Caroni 1998 16 Years is the 33rd edition of Caroni spirits overall, and the second from the 1998 vintage. The rum matured in the tropical climate of Trinidad in American oak ex-bourbon barrels for 16 years. The angels' share was over 77%. Bottled in 2014 in a limited edition of 3,850 individually numbered bottles.
