Fred Laing's Old Particular series debuted in September 2013, shortly after the division of Douglas Laing & Co.'s assets between the two Laing brothers.
It is the equivalent of the Old Malt Cask range, now owned by Hunter Laing & Co, of which Stewart is chairman. Old Particular comprises single malt and single grain whiskies bottled in single cask. This whisky was distilled at ‘Orkney’s Most Notable Distillery’ (Highland Park?) in June 2008 and spent over 12 years in a refill hogshead (DL 14290). Bottled in August 2020 at 48.4% abv and unchill-filtered in an edition of 430 bottles.
Nose: slightly smoky and marine, barley malt, brown sugar, honey, bananas, nectarines, orange peel, ginger cookies, mint leaf and oak.
Palate : sweet, vanilla, toffee, salted caramel, honey, peaches, apples, banana cake, ginger, a pinch of white pepper and a fleeting trace of smoke in the background.
Finish : medium long, with notes of honey, caramel, citrus peel, white pepper, mint, oak and smoke in the background.
