Ardmore Distillery is a large distillery based in the Highlands, currently owned by Beam Suntory.
Built in 1898 by William Teacher & Son, it is the only distillery in the region that consistently distills from malt with a phenol concentration of 12-14ppm. The vast majority of its production is used to blend, in particular Teacher's Highland Cream, which has sold over 17 million bottles globally. The whisky presented here, distilled in January 2002, spent over 18 years in a refilled hogshead cask no. DL 13927. Bottled at 48.4% abv and without chill filtration by Douglas Laing & Co. in the popular Old Particular series in March 2020 in an edition of 309 bottles.
Nose: malted barley, peat smoke, damp chalk, roasted peanuts, vanilla, sweet bread, apples, cinnamon, hints of hay, smoked meat and oak.
Palate : salted peanuts, seaweed salad, smoked meat, green apples, gooseberries, herbal mix, notes of vanilla, ginger and toasted oak.
Finish : quite long, with notes of salted nuts, smoked meat, vanilla, honey, peat smoke and ash.
