Fred Laing's Old Particular series debuted in September 2013, shortly after the division of Douglas Laing & Co.'s assets between the two Laing brothers.
It is the equivalent of the Old Malt Cask range, now owned by Hunter Laing & Co, of which Stewart is chairman. Old Particular comprises single malt and single grain whiskies bottled in single cask. The Dumbarton featured here, distilled in November 2000, spent over 20 years in a refill hogshead cask no. DL 15001. Bottled in May 2021 at 51.5% abv and non-chill-filtered in an edition limited to 260 bottles. Dumbarton Distillery produced grain whiskies between 1938 and 2002, mainly for Ballantine's blends. Its main mash grain was corn.
Nose : honey, brown sugar, butter cookies, maple syrup, sugared nuts, raisins, sultanas, pralines, notes of white pepper, ginger and oak.
Palate: sweet cereal, vanilla pudding, golden syrup, buttered toast, coconut flakes, allspice, white pepper and oak.
Finish: medium long, with notes of vanilla, caramel, cereal, sugared nuts, white pepper, ginger and oak.
