Benrinnes Distillery is located in the heart of Speyside, close to the Aberlour distillery. It began operations in 1826 and underwent a major expansion in the 1950s, with no trace of the original buildings remaining today.
The plant belongs to Diageo and can produce 3.5 million liters of distillate per year, almost all of which goes into the company's blends. The whisky presented here, distilled in June 2009, spent over 12 years in a refilled hogshead cask no. DL 15250. Bottled at 48.4% abv and without chill filtration by Douglas Laing & Co. in the popular Old Particular series in August 2021 in an edition of 390 bottles. This whisky represents the new Old Particular line called "Cheers to Better Days" or "Let's drink to a better future".
Nose : vanilla, milk chocolate, toffee, sweet bread, pears, greengages, orange peel, bananas, a bit of ginger and white pepper, traces of hay and oak.
Palate : honeyed breakfast cereal, vanilla cream, almond croissant, cherries, oranges, toffee-coated apples, candied ginger, notes of licorice and oak.
Finish : quite long, with notes of vanilla, toffee, licorice, candied citrus peel, gingerbread and oak tannins.
