Hibiki, premium blended whisky, was introduced by the Japanese conglomerate Suntory in 1989 and initially didn’t draw too much of attention.
The whisky industry was still in deep crisis and needed another decade to start its remarkable recovery. In the new Century several expressions of Hibiki scored number of prestigious awards and Suntory (later Beam Suntory) began releasing ultra-premium limited editions. One of such was Hibiki Japanese Harmony Master’s Select, launched to celebrate Japanese life and culture. The presentation highlights the Japanese symbols of cherry blossoms, royal carriage and water stream, known to symbolize prosperity and good fortune. The formula of the blend contains a tiny amount of award-winning Yamazaki sherry cask.
Nose: nicely balanced, Christmas cake, vanilla, plums, oranges, cherries, honeydew melon, dried rose petals, milk chocolate, allspice, hints of hay and toasted oak.
Palate: fruity, nectarines, pink grapefruits, cantaloupe, orange marmalade, milk chocolate, pralines, vanilla cream, hints of white pepper and lemon grass and oak.
Finish: long, with notes of vanilla, chocolate, tropical fruits, green tea, dash of mixed spice and toasted oak.
