Product description
Founded in 1988 by Andrew and Brian Symington, Signatory Vintage is today a leading independent publisher and distributor of whisky, respected by consumers.
Signatory has a custom, highly valued by whisky lovers, of providing each cask strength edition with information on the type and number of the cask, the date of its filling, bottling and the number of bottles to which the given release is limited. At the end of the last century, the company proposed the "Silent Stills" series, in which it offered whisky from distilleries that were closed, usually forever. In addition to the 700ml bottle, the set also included a 50ml bottle. The pride of the series was probably the Port Ellen 1979 presented here, aged in cask no. 274 for 18 years. In October 1997, its contents translated into 190 bottles of cask strength whisky (56.3% abv).
Port Ellen Distillery produced whisky from 1825 to 1929. In 1967, after a general renovation, it resumed production, but it could not resist the crisis in the industry in the 1970s and in 1983 it distilled for the last time. In the 1990s, Port Ellen was one of the most frequently mentioned whiskies in the offers of independent publishers, which today can only be remembered with fondness, and it earned a cult status in the new millennium. In 2017, the Diageo concern decided to rebuild the distillery and resume production, which should take place in 2022.
