In early autumn 2020, BenRiach Distillery presented the first whiskies from its new offering.
It represents three profiles of this single malt – classic Speyside, smoky and peated Speyside (distilled for 5-6 weeks per year) and “triple distilled” (distilled for 1-2 weeks per year). All of the new whiskies are the creation of Rachel Barrie, Brown-Forman’s master blender, and their presentation harks back to the first official Benriach release (Original Ten) from 1994. The BenRiach The Original Ten presented here is a blend of distillates aged in bourbon, sherry and virgin casks for at least 10 years and bottled at 43% ABV.
Nose : fresh, fruity, apples, pears, peaches, sultanas, candied orange peel, vanilla, milk fudge, honey and a pinch of cinnamon.
Taste : soft, vanilla cream, toffee, golden syrup, baked apples and pears, raisins, nectarines, yeast cake, a pinch of pepper and nutmeg.
Finish : medium long, with notes of vanilla cream, roasted peanuts, ripe fruit, a pinch of spices and oak.
