Product description
The now iconic "Rare Malts" series debuted in 1995 in the offer of United Distillers (Diageo since 1998), after the huge success of two other series - "Classic Malts" and "Flora & Fauna".
Most of the Rare Malts editions were distilled between 1969 and 1981 and aged for 18 to 30 years. However, due to very limited stocks and the growing interest in single malts, after a few years, distilleries still in operation joined in. Benrinnes has only appeared in the series once, the whisky presented here, distilled in 1974 from barley malted on site (until 1984 the plant used a so-called "Saladin box"), and bottled after 21 years of maturation in 1996 at 60.4% abv.
