Product description
Rare Old is a Gordon & MacPhail whisky series that ended in spring 2018 (replaced by Private Collection in the autumn).
Rare Old was a historical series, containing old whiskies, often from closed and forgotten distilleries. Alongside iconic malts like Brora and Port Ellen, there was a place for rarely mentioned whiskies like Banff and Glenury Royal, as well as unique whiskies from distilleries still in operation. In the latter category is the Tomintoul presented here, a whisky distilled just a few years after the facility was built, when it was equipped with a single pair of stills (another one was installed in 1974) and aged in refilled sherry hogshead casks for over four decades. The edition consisted of 342 bottles and was released in 2012 with the designation RO/12/06. (Official tasting note.)
Nose: subtle notes of sherry enriched with marzipan and milk chocolate; traces of beeswax, ripe bananas, peaches and lemons.
Taste: honey with chili spice, orange zest and gooseberry combined with mint chocolates and menthol.
Finish: long, sweet and creamy.
