Product description
With global sales of 5.2 million cases (2022), Bombay ranks third on the list of most popular gins (first is Gordon's with 7.7 million, second is Tanqueray with 5.5 million cases).
The original formula for this gin was developed by Thomas Dakin in 1761, and then “improved” several times. The “Bombay” brand did not appear on the market until 1960 thanks to New York lawyer Alain Subin, who thus joined the alcoholic beverage industry. The rights to it were soon purchased by United Distillers & Vintners (operating as part of the Grand Metropolitan concern), and finally, since 1997, the owner of the brand is Bacardi Ltd. Bacardi, in turn, outsources the distillation of Bombay to G&J Greenall. The Bombay Sapphire Murcian Lemon presented here is described by the producer as a “premier cru” gin. The formula of the standard Bombay Dry contains eight botanicals: juniper berries, coriander seeds, orris roots, angelica and licorice, lemon peel, bitter almonds and cassia bark. In the case of the one presented here, lemons from Murcia, Spain, and tangerine and orange peels are added. The lemons are hand-peeled, their peels are dried in the sun and distilled.
Bombay Murcian Lemon combines the standard Bombay London Dry with intense notes of zesty lemon and orange; in the background traces of pine needles, a touch of herbs and pepper. We recommend serving it with a classic tonic with a quarter of lemon.
