The MacPhail's Collection is, as we read on the official Gordon & MacPhail website, a series comprising whiskies from seven distilleries scattered throughout Scotland, constituting an excellent introduction to discovering the secrets hidden within them.
These are (starting from the north): Highland Park, Pulteney, Glenrothes, Tamdhu, Glenturret, Bunnahabhain and Glen Scotia. Tamdhu 1971 is a whisky distilled when the distillery was twin still and owned by Highland Distillers Co. Bottled after over 40 years of maturation in a refill sherry butt at 43% abv.
Nose: pronounced notes of sherry, toffee, caramel, vanilla, oranges, mango, cantaloupe, raisins, hazelnuts, nutmeg, cocoa, mint leaf, oak and traces of furniture polish.
Palate: milk chocolate, roasted almonds and nuts, toffee, banana cake, lime jam, orange peel, cinnamon, black pepper, nutmeg, notes of tobacco and oak.
Finish : quite long, with notes of chocolate, raisins, orange peel, pepper, nutmeg, oak and a bit of tobacco.
