The Pusser's brand is strongly associated with British sailing traditions.
Traditionally, each sailor on Royal Navy ships received a daily ration of rum, rationed by the ship's purser (changed to Pusser by the sailors). Pusser's Rum Ltd. was founded almost a decade after the sad moment when this noble custom was abandoned in the Royal Navy, on July 31, 1970. The inconsolable sailors named this day Black Tot Day. They had to wait until 1979 to be able to recall the good old days - thanks to Pusser's Rum Ltd. To start, five different rums from the West Indies (or Caribbean) were combined using the original Royal Navy recipe. The Overproof recipe is based on the original recipe used in the Royal Navy, but the blend is not diluted to the usual 40 percent before bottling. This version is distributed only in Germany. The bouquet of this rum offers accents of cane sugar, molasses, dried fruit, tropical spices and caramel.
