John Glaser, founder of Compass Box, is a larger-than-life figure in today’s whisky world. John not only puts together excellent blends, but he also willingly reveals the details of each blend’s formula without using clichéd advertising slogans.
Compass Box Artist Blend is dedicated to the 19th century master blenders, the artists to whom blended Scotch whisky owes its popularity today. Its formula includes: 45% Cameronbridge (first fill ex-bourbon casks); 22% Linkwood first fill ex-bourbon casks and 5% refill Palo Cortado sherry; 10% Balmenach first fill ex-bourbon casks; 10% Clynelish first fill ex-bourbon casks and 8% Highland Malt Blend (made from Glen Moray, Tomatin and Balmenach single malts) finished in toasted French oak barrels.
Aroma : delicate, fruity, sweet breakfast cereals, vanilla, caramel, banana cake, peaches, orange peel, blossoming apple tree and a trace of oak.
Palate: mild, sweet bread, milk fudge, vanilla, honey, brown sugar, bananas, apples, sultanas, notes of cinnamon, ginger and toasted oak.
Finish : medium long, with notes of vanilla cream, honey, toffee, orchard fruit, a touch of ginger and pepper and a light bitterness of oak.
