With annual sales of over 4.5 million bottles, Balvenie ranks sixth among the most popular single malt whiskies.
In June 2021, the distillery launched the “Rare Marriages” series with the Balvenie 25 year old, a luxury whisky line for distribution in the Travel Retail network (30 year old and 40 year old versions are soon to follow). “Rare Marriages” is another initiative by David Stewart, the legendary Malt Master of the company for 60 years (David began his apprenticeship at Wm Grant & Sons in 1962 and was appointed Malt Master in 1974). Balvenie 25 year old is a blend of spirits aged in European and American oak barrels, then married in a special vat after maturation. The whisky is bottled in its natural colour and without chill filtration at 48% abv. (Official tasting note.)
Nose: smooth, lots of honey and soothing oak notes complemented by the sweetness of candied orange peel.
Taste: intense vanilla and oak flavors to start, followed by campfire-roasted marshmallows and fresh fruit jelly, and apple tart sprinkled with cinnamon.
Finish : endlessly lingering sweetness.
