Product description
The Mhoba Rum Distillery is located in the Mpumalanga province in eastern South Africa.
It is a small craft distillery that produces 10 different types of rum. Founded in 2015 by Robert Greaves, whose family had been involved in sugar cane cultivation in this part of the African continent since the 1980s. The inspiration to produce rum came during a holiday in Mauritius. For this reason, Mhoba produces agricole rum, as in the former French colony. Mhoba prides itself on the fact that no colourings, flavourings or sugar are added to the rum produced there, and the aroma and taste of the drink are the result of the skills of the person involved in its production and the influence of the barrels used to mature it.
Mhoba Strand 151 is – like Strand 101 – a blend of high-ester distillates and rum matured in glass tanks at the Mhoba distillery. The latter type of rum spends 2 years in glass jugs, into which are thrown chopped fragments of fresh white oak, previously roasted on a charcoal fire. The result of such a blend is a drink offering both notes of smoky vanilla and the natural sweetness of rum. Bottled as a spirit with an almost unbelievable strength of 75.5% vol.
