Tullibardine 225 Sauternes Cask Finish / 43% / 0.7l
- French Company Picard Vins & Spiritueux acquired Tullibardine Distillery in 2011. The French inherited significant inventory but apparently some of the casks contained whisky of mediocre quality, not suitable to be bottled as single malt.
Product description
In 2011, French company Picard Vins & Spiriteux acquired Tullibardine Distillery.
The contract included storage stocks, some of which were (allegedly) inferior quality distillates, not qualifying for single malt edition. The French poured them into new barrels and two years later proposed a new commercial offer, including three so-called wood finishes: 500 Sherry, 225 Sauternes and 228 Burgundy (the numerical designations refer to the volume of barrels used in the final maturation phase). Tullibardine 225 Sauternes Finish, after basic maturation in fresh bourbon barrels, took on its beauty in 225-litre Sauternes barrels from Château Suduiraut.
Aroma: fruity with a delicate note of malt, pineapples, honeydew melon, bananas, peaches, milk fudge, vanilla, traces of allspice and pepper.
Taste: fruity and spicy, pineapples, bitter oranges, peaches, milk chocolate, vanilla, white pepper, allspice and a delicate note of oak.
Finish: medium long, fruity, with a subtle hint of spice and oak bitterness.
