Product description
Shinshu Mars Distillery belongs to Hombo Shuzo, which has had the distilling license since 1949.
Shinsu is located in the village of Miyada, Nagano Prefecture, in the picturesque Japanese Alps, and is the highest distillery in Japan (798m above sea level). In 2011, after a break of almost 20 years, the distillery resumed production of whisky, which it distills from September to June, using both "unpeated" malt and three types of "peated" malt - with phenol concentrations of 3.5ppm, 20ppm and 50ppm. In 2016, Hombo Shuzo built a new Tsunuki distillery on the island of Kyushu, where some of the whisky distilled at Shinsu is matured. The one presented here was matured in American white oak barrels and bottled at 54% abv in 2020.
