Ondjaba whiskey is a product of Namibian Erongo Mountain Winery situated along the Omaruru River at 1200 meters above sea level and surrounded by the beautiful rugged mountains of the Erongo region.
The winery and distillery are owned by Wolfgang Koll, the largest wine and spirits producer in Namibia. The formula of the whiskey includes native to Africa pearl millet, which is kilned over elephant dung, corn and malted wheat. The whiskey is triple distilled in column still and aged in heavily toasted American oak barrels and casks previously used for wine storage for a minimum of three years. The name ‘Ondjaba’ translates from the local Ovambo dialect to ‘Elephant’.
Nose: earthy and grainy, clay, wood smoke, burnt sugar, vanilla, tobacco, cedar wood, dash of mixed spice and charred oak.
Palate: breakfast cereals, vanilla, caramel, grilled meats, black pepper, ginger, tobacco, leather and oak char.
Finish: medium long, with notes of toasted grains, wood char, pepper, caramel and leather.
