In 1977, the United Kingdom celebrated the Queen's Silver Jubilee.
Elizabeth II was crowned on February 6, 1952, just a couple of months before her 26th Birthday. The Macallan presented here was one of several single malts released to commemorate the Queen's Silver Jubilee, including Glenfarclas, Glenlivet, and Talisker.
The whisky was distilled in 1952 or earlier when the distillery was owned by Roderick Kemp Trust and bottled by Gordon & MacPhail. Macallan was then equipped with six stills and produced just a fraction of today's output. In the past, Gordon & MacPhail and Campbell, Hope & King were two licensed companies allowed to use the official Macallan branding name in their releases.
Gordon & MacPhail, established in 1895, is the Scottish most recognizable independent whisky bottler. The firm's policy has always been to buy new whisky directly from the distillery and age it in the company-owned warehouses. The company holds thousands of casks of whisky in its warehouses in Elgin.
