Ballantine's has been number 2 in Scotch whisky sales statistics for years, with over 9 million cases (2022). Since 2005, the brand has been in the portfolio of Chivas Bros., a company owned by Pernod Ricard.
Sandy Hyslop, the master blender responsible for the Ballantine's brand, is constantly working on new editions that discover new aromas and flavors. The brand is also present in the recently extremely popular "Spirit Drink" category, in this case spirits blended with whisky but bottled below the required minimum alcohol content of 40%. One of the latest proposals, Ballantine's Light, is something for a hot summer, a drink offered at 20% abv, which is exactly half the flagship Ballantine's Finest. The advertising campaign used the slogan "Full of Taste - Half the Alcohol".
Aroma : mild and fruity, juicy green apples, honey, oranges and subtle notes of milk chocolate.
Palate: Initial, sweet-spicy notes of zesty orange and pink grapefruit are replaced by juicy pear and hazelnuts.
Finish : extremely delicate, citrusy and sweet.
