Charanda is a Protected Designation of Origin (Denominación de origen) spirit made from sugar cane in the state of Michoacán in western central Mexico.
Casa Tarasco is a distillery of this spirit, a type of rum, founded in 1907 and still run by the Pacheco family. The distillery has both stills and a short French-type rectification column. The Uruapan brand is a tribute to the town of the same name, with which the Pacheco family is associated. The rum is produced using sugar cane of the Saccharum officinarum variety, grown in volcanic soil at an altitude of almost 1,300 meters above sea level.
Sol Tarasco is a Charanda-type rum made from sugar cane juice, distilled in an alembic and matured for 10 years in American bourbon oak barrels and Spanish sherry barrels.
Aroma : Mango, bananas, vanilla, crème brulee, hint of smoke, nutmeg.
Taste : Chocolate, dates, red fruits, toasted oak, a hint of Armagnac.
Finish: Long, hints of smoke, pepper and menthol.
