Macduff is a relatively young distillery based in the Highlands.
It began in 1960 and in 1972 became the property of William Lawson Distillers, then owned by Martini & Rossi. In 1993 Martini & Rossi merged with Bacardi Ltd and Macduff became part of John Dewar & Sons, a subsidiary of Bacardi. The plant has five stills and produces over 3 million litres of distillate per year. The Dun Eideann edition presented here was distilled in November 2006 and aged for 11 years in cask no. HL 14610. The edition consisted of 242 bottles. Dun Eideann Scotch Whisky Co. was established in 1995 as a subsidiary of Signatory Vintage; its whisky editions are intended for export, mainly to France, Italy, Spain and Switzerland. Dunn Eideann (Dùn Èideann) is the Gaelic name for the capital of Scotland, Edinburgh.
Nose: barley malt, vanilla, freshly baked bread, apples, bananas, walnuts, a handful of fresh herbs, notes of potpourri and oak.
Palate: sweet breakfast cereal, vanilla, milk fudge, brown sugar, orange peel, baked apples, lemongrass, a touch of pepper and oak.
Finish: medium long, with notes of vanilla, country orchard fruit, pepper, hay and oak.
