"The Sovereign" is a boutique series offering single grain whiskies aged for a minimum of 25 years and bottled in a single cask version, without chill filtration and without added colouring agents, always with a natural alcohol content.
It is part of the Hunter Laing & Co. portfolio, founded by Stewart Laing in 2013. That year, Stewart and his brother Fred split the assets of Douglas Laing & Co., which they owned for some 40 years. Port Dundas 29 years old, presented here, was distilled in February 1990 and aged in a refilled hogshead cask (HL 16783). As of June 2019, its contents amounted to 282 bottles. Port Dundas Distillery was a founding member of DCL (now Diageo). It distilled for the last time in 2010.
Aroma : caramel, vanilla pudding, maple syrup, cotton candy, coconut flakes, almond croissant, notes of cinnamon and oak.
Palate: sweet cereal, caramel, vanilla, milk fudge, milk chocolate, candied orange peel, cinnamon buns, a touch of ginger and oak.
Finish : medium long, sweet, with notes of caramel, vanilla, honey, oak and a touch of sweet spices.
