Old Virginia 6-year-old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey / 40% / 0.7l

Old Virginia is a bourbon brand from the portfolio of the French company La Martiniquaise.

The French aren’t revealing any details about the whiskey’s origins or mash bill, other than the fact that it’s made up over 51% corn and is based in Kentucky. What we do know is that it’s a “straight bourbon” aged for six years in new, charred American oak barrels. In 2019, the bourbon won a silver medal at the International Spirit Challenge. La Martiniquaise was founded in 1934 and is now France’s second-largest spirits producer after Pernod Ricard. In recent years, it has significantly expanded its whiskey brand portfolio, and the purchase of Glen Moray Distillery and the rights to the global Cutty Sark blend have solidified its position in the whiskey segment.

Nose : vanilla, brown sugar, honey, burnt bread crust, roasted nuts, white pepper, charred oak and a hint of dried herbs.

Taste : vanilla pudding, caramel, honey-roasted nuts, wholemeal toast, pepper, a pinch of allspice, orange peel and oak.

Finish: medium long, with notes of vanilla, caramel, dried herbs, pepper and charred oak.
