Product description
Malibu is one of the most popular Caribbean rum-based coconut liqueurs in the world.
It is a creation of Thomas Edwin Jago, also responsible for the recipe of Baileys Irish Cream, among others. Initially, the idea was to facilitate the making of piña coladas in bars around the world. It soon turned out to be a commercial success, which brought about transferring its manufacture from Curaçao to Barbados, and improving on the quality of its ingredients. It was the rum from the West Indies Rum Distillery Ltd. that was used as a base for the new Malibu. It all happened in the early 1980s. In 2002 the brand was sold to Allied Domecq for the staggering sum of GBP 560 million, and 3 years later it became the property of Pernod Ricard. Since that time, a wide range of variations on the Malibu theme has been launched, including mainly the tropical fruit flavoured ones, but also mint-based Malibu Fresh, Malibu Red with tequila and Malibu Black, a variety notably stronger than the rest of the line.
Malibu Watermelon Caribbean Rum is a liqueur based on the Caribbean rum from Barbados and a watermelon extract. Bottled at the same strength as the original Malibu liqueur. Perfect as an ingredient for cocktails, cakes, desserts and a wide range of other uses.
