The Grand Series is a manifesto of sorts for Glenfiddich, emphasizing the company's willingness to experiment and meet the expectations of 21st century consumers.
So far, it has released Glenfiddich Grand Cru 23 years old French Cuvée Cask Finish, Glenfiddich Grand Reserva 21 years old Caribbean Rum Cask Finish and most recently Glenfiddich Grande Couronne 26 years old, a whisky aged in American and European oak barrels and finished for two years in cognac barrels. “Couronne,” which means “Crowning” in French, combines Scottish and French traditions and is absolutely worthy of its name. Glenfiddich is the permanent leader in single malt sales, selling over 18 million bottles in 2019, up 9% year-on-year.
Nose: very elegant, toasted oak, buttery croissants, lemon meringues, honey, peaches, pears, honeydew melon, wildflower bouquet and a little wax.
Taste : mild and pleasantly sweet, vanilla cream, milk chocolate, brown sugar, candied orange peel, banana cake, licorice, a pinch of white pepper and ginger and toasted oak.
Finish: quite long, with notes of toasted oak, honey-roasted nuts, plums, nectarines and a pinch of spices.
