In late 2020, Douglas Laing & Co. once again expanded its popular Old Particular series, this time with ‘The Midnight Series.’ It consists of single malts aged in sherry casks and bottled in single cask.
The label with the slumbering moon clearly suggests evening, contemplative sipping of these whiskies. The Craigellachie presented here, distilled in October 2005, spent 15 years in a sherry butt no. DL 14558, and was bottled in December 2020 in an edition of 357 bottles. Craigellachie Distillery is located in the heart of Speyside and equipped with two pairs of stills can produce over 4 million litres of alcohol per year. The plant is owned by John Dewar & Sons, a subsidiary of Bacardi Ltd., and most of its production goes into Dewar's blends.
Nose : milk chocolate and toffee, honeycomb, brown sugar, raisins, apples, pears, pink grapefruit, black pepper, cinnamon, coconut flakes, sherry and oak.
Taste: Christmas fruitcake, plums, dates, pears, chocolate-coated raisins, caramel, mocha, cinnamon, a pinch of pepper and nutmeg and a light bitterness of oak.
Finish : quite long, with notes of toffee, caramel, sweet dried fruit, allspice, pepper and oak.
