With annual sales of over 10 million bottles, Bushmills is currently the third best-selling Irish whiskey behind Jameson and Tullamore Dew.
Since 2014, the distillery has been owned by Casa Cuervo, the producer of José Cuervo tequila, which plans to expand the plant and increase its production capacity to 9 million liters of alcohol per year (planned investment cost £34 million). In 2020, the company announced the release of a new series, "Bushmills Original Cask Finish", which was heralded by Caribbean Cask Finish. The second edition presented here was released in spring 2021, composed of Bushmills single malt aged in American oak barrels and finished in double-charred American oak barrels supplied by Kelvin Cooperage based in Louisville, Kentucky, and triple-distilled single grain whiskey.
Nose: sweet, vanilla, milk fudge, caramel, buttery croissants, coconut flakes, ripe apples and grapes and burnt oak.
Palate: sweet cereals, vanilla pudding, crème brûlée, yeast cake, bananas, baked apples, notes of cinnamon and oak.
Finish: medium long, with notes of vanilla, caramel, honey, a touch of sweet spice and charred oak.
