Product description
In April 2018, renowned independent whisky publisher Gordon & MacPhail, which has been operating since 1895, reduced the number of its “release series” from fourteen to five.
Among the lucky five was “Connoisseurs Choice,” in our opinion the most recognizable Gordon & MacPhail series, launched in the 1960s by George Urquhart. Today, we find single cask editions bottled at cask strength. The Glenlivet presented here was added to the series on March 13, 2020 as Batch # 20/002. Distilled in 1986, the whisky spent more than three decades in a refill sherry hogshead cask, no. 16601881, and was bottled at cask strength (47.5% abv) and without chill filtration in an edition of 303 bottles. (G&M tasting note.)
Nose : sweet scent of forest fruits and stewed pears sprinkled with a pinch of cinnamon; distinct notes of orange peel and some oak in the background.
Palate: Red fruits, strawberries and raspberries to start, followed by sweet notes of licorice; baked red apples, candied fruit peel and roasted nuts.
Finish: long and subdued, strawberry sweetness balanced by the spiciness of black pepper.
