Product description
Glenrothes is one of the most acclaimed Scottish single malts by blenders, with annual sales of around 600,000 bottles (2019).
Recently, the distillery has offered the collector's item presented here, the 40-year-old edition. The whisky, distilled in 1978, was aged in sherry and bourbon casks and bottled in 2019 at 43% abv. According to Gordon Motion, Glenrothes Master Distiller, "this is a historic edition based on the last stocks distilled in the original stills, representing the end of an era; this unique whisky will not see another release, which is what makes it a collector's item." Glenrothes 40 years old is the proverbial "icing on the cake" of the Soleo Collection, which debuted in 2018. The series consists of six single malts composed for the 21st century consumer, showing the influence of sherry casks on the final palette of the whisky and aged for between 10 and 40 years. Only 594 bottles of the 40-year-old were released. (Producer's note.)
A beautiful combination of orange oil, peach, cedarwood and almond aromas is just a prelude to a rich palette filled with the taste of sultanas, cinnamon and nutmeg; the long finish creates a harmonious symbiosis of spices, orange peel and oak tannins.
