Product description
Bombay is the second most popular gin, with annual global sales of 4.7 million cases (2019). Bombay ranks second on the list of most popular gins (first is Gordon's with 6.7 million cases).
Its original formula was developed by Thomas Dakin in 1761, but it has been “improved” several times over the centuries. The “Bombay” brand did not appear on the market until 1960 thanks to New York lawyer Alain Subin, who thus joined the alcoholic beverage industry. The rights to it were soon purchased by United Distillers & Vintners (operating as part of the Grand Metropolitan concern), and finally, since 1997, the brand has been owned by Bacardi Ltd. Bombay is produced at the Laverstoke Distillery in Hampshire. In addition to the standard versions, Bombay is also offered in limited editions. The first limited edition release (spring 2019) was the Bombay Sapphire English Estate presented here. The standard Bombay Sapphire formula contains 10 botanicals: juniper berries, coriander seeds, orris, angelica and licorice roots, lemon peel, bitter almonds, cubeb pepper, grains of paradise and cassia bark. In the case of Sapphire English Estate, penny mint, rosehips and roasted hazelnuts have been added.
Bombay Sapphire English Estate combines classic notes of juniper and pine needles with delicate spiciness, nuts and a wonderfully woven hint of mint. To fully capture the charms of the English province, we recommend serving it with tonic or ginger ale, a few drops of freshly squeezed lemon juice and a mint leaf.
