Glen Grant Distillery celebrated its 180th anniversary in 2020. The distillery is based in Rothes and was built in 1840 by James and John Grant.
John previously smuggled whisky from the Highlands to the Lowlands, while James became famous for his unusual credit-taking skills, offering his suppliers a £100 note to settle their bills, knowing that none of them would be able to change it. The distillery has been owned by Gruppo Campari since 2006, and its single malt sells 3 million bottles a year. Arboralis is the creation of master distiller Dennis Malcolm, who has worked for Glen Grant for 57 years. It is a blend of spirits aged in bourbon and sherry casks for five to 10 years. Its name means “light through the trees” and refers to the Victorian gardens surrounding the distillery and the warehouses filled with maturing whisky.
