The release of two luxury versions of Loch Lomond whisky – 21 and 30 years old – in autumn 2020 put the proverbial icing on the cake of the company’s new core offering.
According to a company spokesman, “both Lomond stills are perfectly indicative of their fruity side.” Loch Lomond 30 Year Old was aged in American oak casks, after which half of the distillates for the release were placed in first-fill Oloroso sherry casks. The selection was personally made by Michael Henry, Loch Lomond Group’s blender. Loch Lomond 30 Year Old is bottled at 47% abv, with a natural colour and without chill filtration. Loch Lomond Distillery is based in Alexandria in the southern Highlands and has been owned by Hillhouse Capital Management, based in Hong Kong, since 2019.
Nose: rich, honey, vanilla cream, milkshake, peaches, cantaloupe, blood oranges, raspberries, cinnamon, pinch of pepper, notes of wax, tobacco and pine resin.
Palate : milk chocolate, coffee liqueur, orange peel, raisins, baked plums, toffee apples, vanilla, nutmeg, anise, candied ginger, notes of leather and oak.
Finish : long, with notes of toffee, vanilla, blackberries, nutmeg, pepper, oak, dried herbs, a touch of tobacco and leather.
