Operating since 1798, Highland Park Distillery is, like Macallan, part of the Edrington Group.
Over the past seven years, sales of Highland Park single malt have almost doubled, reaching a record 2.2 million bottles in 2019. In 2016, the company launched its Single Cask series, which was met with an extremely warm reception. The whisky presented here, distilled in 2004, spent over 14 years in a refilled sherry butt cask no. 6046. Bottled at cask strength (65.8% abv) in 2018 for the American market, or more precisely, New York (New York State is called the "Empire State") in an edition of 593 bottles.
Nose: heather honey, roasted almonds, black tea, sultanas, honeydew melon, red apples, cherries, cocoa, nutmeg, a touch of tobacco and peat, notes of sherry and oak.
Palate : raisins, hazelnuts, crème brûlée, honey, caramel, burnt toast, orange jam, pink grapefruit, milk chocolate, herbal spice and oak.
Finish: quite long, with notes of roasted nuts and almonds, orange, chocolate, black pepper, dried herbs and a bit of smoke in the background.
