Scarabus 10-year-old Islay Single Malt / 46% / 0.7l

Scarabus single malt debuted in 2019 during the annual Fèis Ìle festival.

The brand is owned by Hunter Laing & Co., a renowned whisky publisher and recently also the owner of Ardnahoe Distillery, which officially opened in April 2019. The company does not reveal which distillery is behind the Scarabus brand, we only know that it is based on Islay. Its name, in turn, refers to the small region in the north of the island, where Ardnahoe is based, and in the past, the Scarabus distillery operated in 1817-1818. The Scarabus 10 year old presented here joined the offer at the end of 2020. The whisky was aged in first and refill bourbon barrels and bottled with a natural color and without cold filtration.

Aroma: peat smoke, damp mosses and ferns, barley malt, oat cookies, vanilla, honey, green apples, white pepper and a pinch of cinnamon.

Palate : breakfast cereal, salted pretzels, white pepper, ginger biscuits, cinnamon, milk chocolate, golden syrup, a touch of vanilla and peat smoke in the background.

Finish : quite long and warming, with notes of peat smoke, pepper, ginger, lapsang souchong tea, a touch of vanilla and oak.
