When Inver House Distillers purchased Pulteney Distillery from Allied Domecq in 1995, its whisky went almost exclusively to Allied blends, with trace amounts of single malt being offered by Gordon & MacPhail.
The first official edition debuted two years later, and today the Old Pulteney brand has recorded sales of over 600,000 bottles, which places it in the top twenty most popular single malts. The owners emphasize the presence in the Travel Retail chain, which is also where the Old Pulteney 2006 Vintage presented here comes from, a whisky aged exclusively in first-fill bourbon barrels.
Aroma: fresh, fruity, apples, grapes, gooseberries, lemon peel, caramel, vanilla, sweet bread, traces of green tea and garden herbs.
Palate : sweet with a pinch of salt, pears, apples, grapefruit, candied lemon peel, vanilla, crème brûlée, honey, salted caramel and a bit of coconut flakes.
Finish : medium long, with notes of vanilla, honey, fresh fruit, charred oak and sea breeze.
