Arran Sauternes Cask Finish was introduced in 2010 as part of ‘Wood Finishes’ range.
(Sauternes is a sweet French wine made of partially raisined grapes, varieties Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle). After initially maturing in traditional oak casks for approximately 8 years the whisky is finished in Sauternes casks personally selected by the company master distiller. In the fall of 2019 Arran single malt got a new modern look, it is being now presented in bespoke bottles with new labels and gift tubes but according to the company statement the whisky inside the bottle remains unchanged. A current range of Arran Wood Finishes includes Amarone, Sauternes and Port.
Nose: sweet and intense, acacia blossom, apricots, cantaloupe, tangerines, banana bread, honey and dash of cinnamon.
Palate: rich, vanilla cream, sultanas, apricots, orange peel, honey-roasted nuts, clove, toasted oak and just a pinch of salt.
Finish: fairly long, with sweet notes of honey, apricot preserve, cantaloupe, candied citrus peel, sweet spice and oak.
