Arran Amarone Cask Finish debuted in 2011 and was warmly received by the market (Amarone is an excellent Italian wine produced from dried grapes, mainly Corvina and Rondinella varieties).
After a basic maturation in refill casks, the whisky is placed in Amarone casks from a small producer in Valpolicella (Veneto) and then bottled in its natural colour and without chill filtration at 50% ABV. In autumn 2019, Arran changed the presentation of its whisky, it is offered in modern, eye-catching bottles with attractive labels. Currently, in the Arran Wood Finishes series, alongside Amarone Cask Finish, there is Port and Sauternes Casks Finish.
Nose : rich, black cherries, rosehip jam, roasted almonds, marzipan, Turkish delight, oranges and dark chocolate.
Taste: pleasantly balanced, dark chocolate, pears, cranberries for meat, apricots, honey, orange peel and a pinch of cinnamon.
Finish: quite long, with notes of Christmas fruitcake, pears, cherries, dark chocolate and a subtle bitterness of oak.
