Product description
Moon Import was founded in 1980 in Genoa by Pepi Mongiardino and quickly became famous as an importer and distributor of high-quality wines and spirits.
Following the suggestion of the legendary Silvano Samaroli († 2017), Mongiardino avoided collaborations with industry giants and focused on bottling single barrels of whisky, usually from private owners. Inspired by old engravings from an 18th-century German encyclopedia, Mongiardino often created the graphic designs for his whisky editions himself. The Bunnahabhain 1979 presented here spent about 14 years in butt cask no. 7472. Bottled in 1993 in the “The Sails in the Wind” series, in an edition of 870 bottles.
Nose: peat smoke, damp gravel, sea salt, raisins, sultanas, caramel, orange peel, cocoa powder, cinnamon, a pinch of pepper and a trace of gum.
Palate: raisins and prunes, blackberries, bitter orange jam, salted caramel, toffee, roasted peanuts, milk chocolate and a bit of smoke in the background.
Finish: long, with notes of dried dark fruit, nut nougat, caramel, a hint of candied ginger and cinnamon and a drop of soy sauce.
