The Dalmore Distillery is based in Alness, in the northern Highlands.
It was built in 1839 by Alexander Matheson; since 1960, the distillery has been owned by Whyte & Mackay, producers of blended whisky based in Glasgow (in 2014, its assets were transferred to the Philippines' Emperador Inc). Dalmore is equipped with four pairs of stills and produces over 4 million liters of distillate per year. The brand's global sales are just over one million bottles per year. The whisky presented here, distilled on August 27, 1965 from barley malted on site, spent 35 years in barrel no. 6658. Bottled at cask strength (53.1% abv) for Berlin's Big Market on September 20, 2000 in an edition of 130 bottles.
Aroma : quite intense oak and herbal notes, sun-drying hay, Earl Grey tea, pine needles, apples, pears, orange peel, cloves, traces of wax and furniture polish and a bit of soot.
Palate: apples, peaches, vanilla, candied fruit, lemongrass, dried basil and oregano, white pepper, ginger, oak tannins and a hint of leather.
Finish: medium long, slightly waxy with notes of a mixture of dried herbs, pepper, a touch of vanilla and oak.
